To Blog Or Not To Blog, That Is The Question…
So here it goes-our first foray into blogging! For some reason, we’ve fought it-not sure why. Perhaps a lack of confidence in our ability to be “cool” enough to blog?? Whatever the reason, we’ve decided to dive in. Enjoy!
Let Me Introduce “The Sows”
For those of you who don’t know us, we are Monica McCafferty and Sarah Lavalette. We opened The Sow’s Ear back in March 2015 right in the center of town in Glastonbury, CT. Together we bring our love of new, antique and repurposed goods from candles to home furnishings, jewelry, accessories and the always unique treasures we source from places that, well let’s just say, take us off the beaten path…we’ll leave it at that!
Hide & Seek
We have to take a second to point out that our store front is not easy to find. We are not hiding – we just love our little space tucked under The Welles-Chapman Tavern House on the corner of Main Street and Hebron Avenue. If you are a Glastonbury local, you’ll know where we are when we say we have the space that The Second Chance Shop used to call home. For everyone else, we are across the parking lot from Panera Bread, down the stairs in the back of the antique yellow colonial sitting on the corner. If you still need help finding us, always feel free to call 860-633-0311.
What We Really Mean To Say Is…
“You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”, an expression that possibly dates back to the mid-1500’s, means being unable to turn something ugly or inferior into something attractive or of value. Well we absolutely disagree! Our intention with this blog is to highlight our favorite finds, offer fun ways to accessorize outside of the box and share our passion for maximizing the potential beauty in items that may have seen better days.
Until We Meet Again
That’s a good enough start for now. Check back again soon as we highlight some of our wonderful candles that will make your fall and holiday season “scent-sational”.
Beauty is around us everywhere and sometimes it just needs a little coaxing to reach its full potential. We joyfully present to you new, antique and repurposed items to make your life more beautiful! You CAN make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear and we can’t wait to share ours with you!
